Raison d'Etre,...mais, pourquoi pas?

It is a very dodgy question indeed. What's the reason of your existence? But why not?

A friend sent me an interesting comic about a person who throws herself out of the window of an 11-floor builiding. On the way down she sees the pathetic lives of her seemingly well-to-do neighbors. Before she touches the ground she realizes that she thought that she was the most miserable person in this world, but actually there are people having worse lives than she did. And the conclusion is, maybe the neighbors will also feel relieved that they thought they were the most miserable persons before seeing her corpse.

The friend who sent this e-mail to me was someone who tried to commit suicide 3 years ago by stabbing a knife into her chest. She missed her heart and the major arteries by only 1 centimeter, I was told. Strangely enough, her brother, who were off to work that morning, felt very uneasy on his way to office. He decided to return home right away, and was there just in time to rush his sister to the hospital, and she survived.

She suffered severe depression for more than one year, and had numerous attempts to end her life before that one. Yet somehow, she even survived the closest call. Was it God? She asked me when we met in a church fellowship. "As a christian, of course I think so, but you have to find the answer for yourself" was my reply.

She indeed took another path to find the answer for herself. She went on a surgery to remove a tumor on her pancrea, which was suspected to be one of the reasons for her depression. And then she decided to apply for the vacancy of stewardess with several airlines companies. Luckily, she was recruited by Qatar Airline. She's now serving people at a job that takes her to different corners of the world. "I still don't know whether it was God, but I am glad that I survived. Otherwise I would never have the chance to know that life could be so different and beautiful!" She wrote in the -mail.

Yes, and why not? Life itself is a blessing from God. None of us could have made it this way -- not even making a difference of a centimeter.
